Giant Killing at Molineux: Coventry City Stuns Wolves with Dramatic Stoppage-Time Double

Coventry City pulled off a sensational upset in the FA Cup quarter-final, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 at Molineux Stadium. The dramatic victory sends the Championship side to the FA Cup semi-finals for just the second time in their history.

The match looked destined for a replay after Wolves clawed their way back from a first-half deficit to lead 2-1 late in the second half. However, Coventry refused to surrender. In a display of heart and determination, they snatched victory with two goals deep into stoppage time.

Ellis Simms, on loan from Everton, emerged as the hero for Coventry.  He had put the visitors ahead early in the first half, but Wolves responded with goals from Daniel Podence and Hwang Hee-Chan in the final ten minutes.  Just when it seemed defeat was inevitable, Simms struck again in the 97th minute, leveling the score.

Three minutes later, Simms turned provider, setting up American forward Haji Wright for the winner. Wright's unstoppable strike sent shockwaves through Molineux and ignited jubilant celebrations for the Coventry faithful.

This victory marks a historic moment for Coventry City. The club, currently playing in the second tier of English football, hasn't reached the FA Cup semi-finals since their triumph in 1987. This win reignites memories of that glorious cup run and injects a surge of excitement into the club and its fans.

For Wolverhampton Wanderers, the defeat is a bitter pill to swallow. The Premier League side will be left to rue their missed opportunities and ponder what might have been.
