Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of Bayern Munich, has revealed that both Bayern Munich and Liverpool are vying to appoint Xabi Alonso as their manager.
Alonso, a former player for both clubs, is currently on the verge of guiding Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever German Bundesliga title.
With both Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the market for new managers this summer, Hoeness acknowledged the competition for Alonso's services.
Hoeness stated to Ran Sport, "Clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen, and FC Bayern are working on it. He's proven that he can be a coach for the big time."
Finding suitable managerial candidates who are available and without commitments presents a challenge, according to Hoeness. He noted that it's not easy to persuade such coaches to consider Bayern Munich as the ideal destination.
Thomas Tuchel will be departing Bayern Munich at the end of the season, while Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool in January. Liverpool, currently sitting second in the Premier League, are level on points with league leaders Arsenal.
Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti recently extended his contract with the club until 2026. Alonso, who spent five years as a player at Real Madrid between his spells at Liverpool and Bayern Munich, has a contract with Leverkusen until 2026.
